Anise Pizzelle

Anise pizzelle are thin, crisp Italian cookies traditionally flavored with anise, giving them a distinctive licorice-like taste. Made with eggs, sugar, flour, butter and anise extract, they are cooked in a decorative pizzelle iron. Perfect for holidays, these treats are light, aromatic, and beautifully patterned. These are my mom’s favorite so they are never missing from our Christmas dessert lineup.

Hazelnut Butterballs

Hazelnut butterballs are delicate cookies with a crumbly, buttery texture. Made with ground hazelnuts, they’re lightly sweetened, rolled in powdered sugar, and melt in your mouth with nutty, indulgent flavor. These are my sister’s favorite, so like pizzelle for my mom, we never go without these at Christmastime. These are addictive and so rich!

Ricotta Cookies

Italian ricotta cookies are soft, moist, and lightly sweet treats with a delicate, almost cake-like texture. Made with creamy ricotta cheese, they often feature hints of vanilla (like in my recipe) or you can substitute lemon extract. These tender cookies are typically topped with a simple glaze, or you can add colorful half cherries, like I did in this picture. The cherries make them a festive favorite for holidays and celebrations.
